The Missions & Outreach efforts of First Church are coordinated by the Missions Committee. Our goals are (1) to effectively utilize gifts from our congregation to provide financial support to organizations that reach out to show Christ's love to those in need, both locally and internationally, and (2) to provide our congregation with opportunities to engage directly in those efforts.

First Church supports organizations and outreach, including volunteer activities where appropriate, in areas such as:

Collaborating with local mission partners to support educational initiatives and camps, to mitigate the impact of homelessness, hunger, and food insecurity, and to advocate on behalf of the marginalized. Our partner agencies include:

Supporting international partners including Child HousesStand with Iraqi Christians, the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Presbyterian Mission Agency.

Working with community building and environmental efforts including the Neighborhood Land Power Project, the Christian Association at the University of Pennsylvania, the Interfaith Philadelphia, the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, the Presbyterian Historical Society

  • The Peace & Justice Group is a sub-committee of the Missions Committee. Using scripture from Matthew 25 and the Theological Declaration of Barmen in the Book of Confessions as their foundation, the Peace & Justice group works to serve and support vulnerable populations by focusing on advocacy and directly addressing policy that impacts them. As stated in their Mission Statement, the Peace and Justice group is “committed to the active enhancement of the funding provided by our Mission Committee, and to the discernment of and participation in actions which bring assistance to the vulnerable and the oppressed in our American society today.” For more information contact Diane Rogers or Laura Colee.

  • Each year, the Missions Committee reviews applications for funding. If your organization seeks funding from FPCP, please follow instructions found on the Grant Application page.
