Join us for a fun and engaging morning for the whole family featuring a reading and musical performance of Peep the Piper, the beloved children’s exploration of the pipe organ by Swiss organist and composer Guy Bovet. Through story and music, this charming multi-media presentation introduces young listeners to the history and unique character of the pipe organ, making it a wonderful way to spark curiosity about this magnificent instrument.
Our Director of Music, Dr. Bálint Karosi will be on hand to answer questions, demonstrate how the organ works, and offer an up-close look at the impressive pipe organ at First Presbyterian Church. This interactive experience is perfect for young learners and families alike.

This month, we will be watching the 2005 movie The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe together. Inspired by the character Edmund selling out his family for some “Turkish delight,” First Church families are invited to bring their favorite dessert to share! In addition to desserts, we’ll have pizza, popcorn, and drinks for the whole family in Old Buttonwood. Come spend time with other families and children at First Church! We hope to provide a space for parents to have informal but meaningful dialogue on a broad range of topics related to parenting in the modern Christian faith. These sessions may be peer-lead or facilitated, depending on the specific topic.
In November we’ll explore how mainstream media’s portrayal of Christianity differs from our faith practices. This conversation will be facilitated by Cindy Jarvis. Come to share, learn, and spend time with other parents while the children are at Sunday School or in the nursery.

Every Sunday, we invite children ages 2-to-12 years old to join us for Children’s Sunday School after our Celebration Service from 9:50-10:30 am in Old Buttonwood Hall. We will be telling Bible stories, making crafts, and learning about how to share Christ’s love to the world. We will primarily be using curriculum from Godly Play, which explores stories from the Old and New Testament using play-based story-telling.
We invite parents to fill out our 2025-2026 Sunday School Registration Form during the first few weeks of Children’s Sunday School so we can best care for your kids in class.

Laura Colee in the basement Sunday School rooms to read a children's story about loss and then create art projects together. Parents will meet in the MacColl Room with school psychologist, Heather Van Stolk, and our Minister for Congregational Care, Rev. Matthew Arlyck, to learn practical tools for discussing death and grief with children. All are welcome—please let Laura know if you are interested in attending so we know how many to expect.

As part of the Advent season, our families with young children will have the opportunity to participate in some fun Christmas-inspired activities and service projects! Children ages 2-to-10 years old are invited to join us from 9:50-10:30 am in the back of Old Buttonwood Hall for our special Advent activities. Here are the activities we have planned in December:

December 29 — No Sunday School this week
On Sunday, September 29, at 9:45 a.m. in the MacColl Room, Dr. Michael “Chip” Rotolo, a former seminary intern at First Church, will speak on religious parenting and the transmission of faith and values. Dr. Rotolo is a Research Associate at Pew Research Center in Washington, DC. This program grows out of his research examining the interplay of religion, morality, and politics in the United States, as well as his own experience in the Church and as a parent.
Beginning Sunday, September 15, we invite children ages 2-to-10 years old to join us for Sunday School after our Celebration! Service from 9:50-10:30 AM in Old Buttonwood Hall. We will be reading Bible stories, making crafts, and learning about how to share Christ’s love to the world. Children’s Sunday School is back, starting Sunday, September 17th!
We invite children ages 2-to-10 years old to join us for Sunday School every Sunday after our Celebration! Service from 9:50-10:30 AM. We will be reading Bible stories, making crafts, singing songs, and learning about how to share Christ’s love to the world.
We are planning additional Children’s Education activities outside of Sunday School for the fall and winter and we will keep you posted on upcoming gatherings.

Become a Sunday School Volunteer! We’d love to have you volunteer with our children’s Sunday School program. All First Church Families with young children are invited to a gathering following the Celebration! service, hosted by the Melley family, to meet and get to know our new Associate Pastor, Rev. As part of the Christmas season, our families with young children will have the opportunity to participate in some fun Advent activities. Join us between the Celebration! (9 AM) and Traditional (11 AM) services for activities each Sunday in Advent.
