Random Acts of Dining FAQ
What is Random Acts of Dining?
Random Acts of Dining is a simple way to get together with friends, new and old. Groups plan their own meals and get together at least once between over the season of lent, sharing meals at participants’ homes or local restaurants.
How many people will be in each group?
Each group will have 6-8 people, just enough to ensure lively conversation without dividing into separate groups.
Who cooks the meal?
Groups are encouraged to have pot luck meals, so that no one individual or couple bears too much of the cooking or cost. However, each group is free to arrange for the meal as they see fit.
What does hosting involve?
Being a host involves being the coordinator of the group. Hosts should contact group members to arrange a date, choose a location (either the hosts’ own home, the home of another member in the group, or a convenient restaurant), and coordinate what people should bring. Hosts should remind group members shortly before the planned meal, so that no one accidentally forgets.
I don’t have room to host a dinner. Can I still host?
Yes! A restaurant is a perfectly good option to share a meal, or you could get creative and invite everyone to a picnic! Just make sure you have a rain plan.
Can I choose who will be in my group?
No. Random Acts of Dining is our way of helping people connect at First Church. It is intended to help people make new friends, or develop closer friendships with people they don’t know as well, so groups will be chosen with an eye towards encouraging new relationships.
How many times do we meet?
Each group will get together at least once, and is encouraged to meet more than once during the season of Lent (early March to Late April). However, we understand that scheduling conflicts may make that impossible. Following the first meal, each group will decide if and when they’d like to get together again.
When can I sign up?
You can sign up anytime using the online form. Or you can sign up on Sunday morning using the card in the pew. Just place the card in the offering plate and it will get to the right place.
What if I have questions?
