Day 4 - August 16

Morning: We spent several hours touring the gorgeous Lanhydrock House, an immaculately restored Victorian estate with gate house, main house, stables (now restaurant), manicured gardens galore, and a small parcel of about 1,000 acres.
Evening: After a comfortable post-Lanhydrock break this afternoon, we gathered for rehearsal at the cathedral, going over both this evening's music and tomorrow's (which includes Andrew's setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, which Simon is conducting and Andrew is playing). Evensong had some of our best singing yet, especially Rheinberger's ethereal and sumptuous Abendlied. We all went out for a group dinner at two Indian restaurants (because we couldn't all fit in one!) and enjoyed exquisite curry flavors and wonderful fellowship.
from Andrew Senn: Tonight was the third (of eight) services we're singing this week. I feel this group has really started to meld into the routine, the way of life, which comes with doing this sort of cathedral strap. They gave some of their finest efforts this evening, and the heavenly Abendlied by Josef Rheinberger will, I'm quite sure, be one of the most memorable musical moments of our time here (I've listened to it about six times now, and am quite misty...). Thank you, choir, for being so fantastic.
