Day 3 - August 15

Today was a full day around the cathedral and town. It began with a leisurely breakfast at the school, after which we rolled down the hill to rehearse for our concert of spirituals and Americana. We all dispersed for lunch before our program at 1pm. After gathering downstairs in our vesting area, we proceeded upstairs, and were warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by a good-sized crowd. There were many comments about how moving so much of the music was (spirituals aren't offered with any regularity in England). Following the concert we were treated to a guided tour of the cathedral, learning about Cornish history, the building of the gothic edifice, and interesting details about the architecture. In the evening we were back to sing a Solemn Eucharist for the Assumption of Mary, which is the cathedral's patronal festival. It was a truly memorable experience to sing Victoria's glorious Missa Vidi Speciosam in the liturgical context for which it was intended, and to receive communion kneeling at the rail of the high altar.
