Below is a list of agencies in and around our community where First Church is involved, providing volunteer opportunities in the city of Philadelphia.


Reading Buddies
Weekly reading and tutoring sessions between children and adults

Preparing & Serving Meals

Serving warm meals to homeless men during the cold winter months

Serving nutritious meals to people suffering HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases

University City Hospitality Coalition (UCHC)
Serving hot meals in University City area 4-5 nights a week to anyone in need, year round.

Lending a Helping Hand

Habitat/West Philadelphia Repair Initiative (WPRI)
An urban ministry assisting homeowners with repairs to their homes

Urban Tree Connection (UTC)
Community-based urban greening projects


Community College of Philadelphia Scholarship
The First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia Scholarship provides a maximum award of $3500 towards tuition to a full-time student pursuing his/her associates' degree at Community College of Philadelphia.  Eligible applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have earned a minimum 30 credits at the College.  Student must be participating in community or volunteer endeavors.  One recommendation must be from a community or religious leader, or supervisor from an organization at which you have volunteered.  Interested students are encouraged to submit their applications by June 1.

LGBT Scholarship
The First Church LGBT Group established a $1,000 scholarship at the Community College of Philadelphia.  The scholarship recognizes Community College of Philadelphia students in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered community and students who strive to understand the issues facing people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered, and who demonstrate the ability to achieve academically.
