First Presbyterian Church has a rich history in Christian education and includes all ages and varieties of topics in providing opportunities for theological reflection and spiritual growth.
Lectionary Bible study is held every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. led by the Rev. Jesse Garner.
From September through May, occasional series on topical issues are scheduled concurrently at several times during the year. Recent series topics have included a studies of the Presbyterian Churches of Ghana, South Korea and Taiwan, Dr. Atul Gawande’s “Being Mortal,” and contemporary social issues. Current programs can be found on the announcements and calendar found on the main menu.
All Adult Education classes are held on the second floor of the Parish House, which is accessible through our 21st Street office entrance.
First Presbyterian offers Sunday school classes for children from age 5 and up. From September through May classes meet from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning.
The nursery for children under the age of 5 is staffed by hired nursery care workers and volunteers from the congregation from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each Sunday.
Young people are offered the opportunity to participate in a communicant’s class. The Youth Group is also active with a variety of activities beyond the classroom including retreats and community service opportunities.
Sunday School and Nursery are located on the Lower Level of the Parish House.
Mid-week Studies & Lectures
During the course of the year we hold a variety of seasonal studies and lectures, including book studies, Bible studies, and our annual Lenten Wednesdays which feature dinner, education, and worship. Click on Series and Lectures to learn of upcoming opportunities.
